Electricity tariffs in Georgia rise by more than 33%

Georgia’s electricity tariffs are set to rise significantly, impacting both households and businesses. Effective April 1st, 2026, consumers will face an additional 5 tetri per kilowatt-hour (kWh), while commercial users can anticipate average increases of 4–6 tetri per kWh. This change affects all regions of Georgia, including Tbilisi.

The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) attributes this increase primarily to Georgia’s dependence on imported electricity and escalating procurement costs. Furthermore, planned investments totaling approximately 2 billion lari ($746 million) are factored into the new tariff period. These investments aim to modernize the electricity distribution system, reducing outages and enhancing reliability.

Energo-Pro Georgia and Telasi, key electricity providers, are slated to invest substantial sums. Energo-Pro Georgia plans around $74.6 million annually until 2030, while Telasi will invest over $149.2 million over three years through external financing, without impacting consumer tariffs. Collectively, more than $559.7 million will be invested in the coming years.

GNERC notes that electricity tariffs were reduced by 3 tetri ($0.011) between 2024 and 2025 due to factors such as the Enguri hydropower plant rehabilitation and favorable hydrological conditions. The current increase is considered minimal and balanced to prevent a substantial rise in commercial tariffs. Despite this adjustment, electricity prices in Georgia remain competitive when compared to neighboring countries and European markets.

New tariffs vary based on consumption levels, with Telmico household tariffs ranging from 20.041 to 28.537 tetri, and commercial tariffs from 27.762 to 35.261 tetri. EP Georgia Supply tariffs range from 19.731 to 28.227 tetri for households and 30.322 to 35.713 tetri for commercial users.
