Grozny, Chechnya – Adam Kadyrov, the 18-year-old son of Chechen Head Ramzan Kadyrov and Secretary of Chechnya’s Security Council, was awarded a commemorative medal honoring the 20th anniversary of the ‘North’ (Sever) Special Motorized Regiment named after his grandfather, Akhmat Kadyrov. The event took place during a ceremonial formation in Grozny attended by Chechen leadership, security agencies, and unit commanders, including Sharip Delimkhanov and Ilya Samusenko. During the ceremony, Adam Kadyrov addressed the regiment’s personnel, expressing gratitude for their service and acknowledging their participation in various operations.
Ramzan Kadyrov highlighted the regiment’s “significant development and consolidation” over the years. The unit, part of the Russian National Guard and formed in the mid-2000s, has a history of involvement in military operations, including those currently ongoing as part of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Adam Kadyrov presented awards, including the Kadyrov Order and the title Hero of the Chechen Republic, Qonakh, to soldiers.
Several fighters were also recognized with the Defender of the Chechen Republic medal. Ramzan Kadyrov himself received a commemorative medal for the regiment’s anniversary. Following the ceremony, participants laid flowers at monuments dedicated to Akhmat Kadyrov and fallen members of the unit.
Recent reports indicate that Adam Kadyrov, who is considered a potential successor to his father, experienced a serious car accident in Grozny in January 2026. Initial reports suggested critical condition, with conflicting information emerging regarding his injuries. Following the incident, Ramzan Kadyrov dismissed the reports as “deep-fakes,” stating the “urgency of fighting fake news.” Subsequent reports suggested surgery, including the removal of his spleen and potential damage to his optic nerve.
Following the accident, Adam Kadyrov reportedly fell out of favor, according to a source within the Federal Security Service (FSB), leading to a reassessment of his position as a potential successor. Keywords: kadyrov, adam, commemorative
