Armenia Sees South Caucasus Stability as Key Competitive Advantage – Deputy FM
Yerevan, Armenia – At the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan emphasized the region’s stability as Armenia’s most significant competitive advantage. Speaking on April 20, 2026, Kostanyan noted the surprising resilience of the South Caucasus amidst global instability, disrupted supply chains, and ongoing conflicts. Kostanyan participated in a panel discussion titled “The South Caucasus: An Emerging Strategic Hub,” alongside representatives from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.
He highlighted the symbolic nature of the four regional leaders collaborating on a shared vision for the future. Discussions centered on the peace process with Azerbaijan, normalization of relations with Turkey, and Armenia’s prospects for European integration. Kostanyan stated that the August 8, 2025, agreement in Washington, D.C., represents a “game-changer” for the region.
He underscored the need for continued political courage and decisive action to facilitate communication and connectivity between countries, aiming to establish the South Caucasus as a bridge between Europe, Central Asia, and the Far East. Kostanyan outlined Armenia’s strategic goals, including diversifying its economy, becoming a transport hub, and securing energy supply through projects like the TRIPP initiative – a multimodal connectivity project involving Armenia, the United States, and partners. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation with the European Union, citing the Armenian people’s aspirations for EU membership and the country’s ongoing steps towards gradual integration.
The deputy minister reiterated that stability and peace are fundamental to Armenia’s future.
