OC Media contributor Samadov faces increased pressure in prison

Bahruz Samadov, an imprisoned OC Media contributor and scholar, has voiced serious concerns regarding his conditions. He alleges that authorities are preventing him from receiving prescribed medication, including eye drops, heart medication, and sleeping pills, as recommended by medical professionals while he was incarcerated. Samadov’s grandmother, Zibeyda Osmanova, 83, reports that he was given this treatment due to his weak heart and difficulty sleeping.

Osmanova further expressed dissatisfaction with the substandard food provided within the prison, describing it as “absolutely disgusting” and preventing visitors from approaching Samadov. He is limited to a small, one-meter balcony for two hours daily, accompanied by only one inmate, and the television and radio were removed from his cell. The harsh conditions, including intense white light, are reportedly causing him eye strain.

Samadov has also raised issues concerning his ability to grant his grandmother power of attorney for his bank savings, as his identification has been lost. He stated his inability to afford the associated fees and legal processes. Osmanova explained her financial struggles, relying solely on a pension of 420 dollars and needing access to Samadov’s savings to cover basic expenses, including food and medication.

She regularly provides him with canned fish, vegetables, and tea, and has been forced to sell jewelry to meet their needs. Samadov has issued a plea for solidarity from prison, warning that Baku may be attempting to end his life. The media is closely following this case, highlighting concerns about potential psychological abuse and the situation of this OC Media contributor within the prison system.
