Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan Confirms Reconciliation with Anna Hakobyan
Yerevan, Armenia – Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has confirmed his reconciliation with his long-time partner, Anna Hakobyan, following months of public speculation surrounding their separation. Speaking at a press briefing earlier this week, Pashinyan stated he had actively pursued the reconciliation following Hakobyan’s February announcement. Initially, Pashinyan expressed respect for Hakobyan’s decision, but subsequently took steps to facilitate the couple’s reunification.
“I am glad that it is happening, and I am glad that I now have another chance for our family to remain together,” he stated. The confirmation comes after photographic evidence emerged of the couple’s public appearances in Gyumri, Armenia’s second-largest city, on April 19th. They were observed walking and drinking coffee together, following Hakobyan’s participation in Pashinyan’s motorcade during the opening of the Ashtrak–Gyumri section of the North-South highway and a subsequent concert.
Pashinyan and Hakobyan, who have been in a common-law relationship for nearly 30 years and have four children, were never legally married, though Hakobyan was widely referred to as the prime minister’s wife. Hakobyan, editor-in-chief of the Armenian Times and executive director of the My Step foundation, had announced the separation in February, citing a desire to move out of the prime minister’s official residence. At the time, Pashinyan apologized for any pain caused and acknowledged their three decades together.
Concerns had been raised regarding potential legal ramifications related to Hakobyan’s work with the My Step foundation, specifically concerning campaign law violations during the provision of free English classes. The reconciliation marks a significant development following the couple’s prolonged separation and continues to be a subject of public interest as Pashinyan prepares for upcoming elections.
