Adam Kadyrov reportedly no longer being considered to be Ramzan Kadyrov’s successor

Chechnya’s Adam Kadyrov is reportedly no longer considered a potential successor to Ramzan Kadyrov. According to a source within the Federal Security Service (FSB), as reported by Novaya Gazeta Europa, Akhmat Kadyrov has taken his younger brother’s place in the succession order. This shift followed a traffic accident in January involving Adam, during which he sustained injuries and fell out of favor.

The FSB source indicated that Ramzan Kadyrov was initially concerned about his son’s condition, but subsequently expressed anger and effectively sidelined Adam due to what was perceived as a significant lapse in judgment at a crucial political moment. Adam Kadyrov, nicknamed “Dustum,” has been demoted, though the extent of his reduced role remains unclear. It’s suggested Ramzan Kadyrov had to appeal to Moscow for assistance, and that Adam’s “foolish behavior” seriously compromised his father’s position.

Despite this, Adam appears largely uninterested in Chechnya or politics, prioritizing his gaming hobby over his responsibilities. Elections for the Head of Chechnya are scheduled for September, and while Ramzan Kadyrov’s candidacy was previously approved by the Kremlin, a final decision is pending. Recent observations show a change in roles within the Kadyrov family.

Akhmat Kadyrov has been increasingly visible at official events, while Adam Kadyrov’s presence has diminished, appearing further back at religious gatherings and less frequently in state media. The accident involving Adam’s motorcade, which claimed the life of another driver, prompted a public denial from Ramzan Kadyrov and his subsequent public appearances. Despite this, Adam remains largely out of the public eye since the incident.

The Kadyrov family, including Adam and Ramzan, remain central to Chechnya’s political landscape.
