Georgia’s Population Reaches Nearly Four Million

Tbilisi, Georgia – Georgia’s population has surpassed 3.9 million, according to recent census data released by the National Statistics Office. As of November 2024, the country’s total population stands at 3,929,581. The demographic breakdown reveals that women constitute 52% of the population, compared to 48% for men.

This gender balance varies across regions, with higher proportions of women observed in Tbilisi and Kutaisi, and more balanced ratios in some smaller municipalities. Tbilisi remains the most densely populated area, housing approximately one-third of Georgia’s residents. Imereti and Kvemo Kartli regions hold the largest populations overall.

Sixty-two percent of Georgia’s population resides in urban areas, reflecting a continuing trend of urbanization. However, the country’s birth rate remains lower than its death rate. In 2025, 37,867 births were recorded, while 44,319 deaths occurred.

Significant urban concentrations are noted in the southwest, particularly in Adjara, driven by the growth of Batumi. Conversely, rural areas, especially mountainous regions, exhibit a lower proportion of urban residents. The population’s age structure indicates a dominant working-age population, with a notable concentration between 30 and 40 years old.

The gender gap increases with age, with women significantly outnumbering men in older demographics, particularly among those aged 85 and over. This demographic shift highlights key trends within the georgia population.
