Karachay–Cherkessia mosques to deliver sermons on road safety after rising accidents

Following a surge in traffic incidents, the region of Karachay–Cherkessia will implement a new safety initiative. Local authorities have decided to hold sermons at mosques throughout the republic, addressing critical road safety concerns. This action follows a recent roundtable discussion involving the regional traffic police and the Muftiate of Karachay–Cherkessia.

The meeting, organized by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims in Karachay–Cherkessia, included Mufti Muhammad-Haji Ekrenov and the head of the traffic police, Ramazan Shilibiev. Shilibiev voiced serious worries regarding the high number of fatalities resulting from car accidents within Karachay–Cherkessia. Traffic police data revealed over 450 accidents occurred in 2025, with more than 140 involving wandering animals and over 10 linked to improperly adjusted headlights.

A total of 64 people lost their lives in road accidents during that year. Mufti Ekrenov emphasized that endangering others contradicts fundamental Islamic principles and regulations. A resolution, drafted by the Mufti’s assistant, Tembot Khizir Khadzhi, highlighted the dangers of stray livestock, the necessity of obeying traffic laws, and the consequences of non-compliance.

The focus includes specific risks such as driving into oncoming traffic, strict rules concerning transporting children, and addressing violations during public events like weddings. Mosques across Karachay–Cherkessia will now deliver sermons on these issues, aiming to boost public awareness and minimize risks. Adam Kadyrov has recently made his first public appearance following a reported accident in January.

This initiative represents a combined effort to improve road safety within the North Caucasus region.
