Russian ambassador warns: Armenia’s Western ties create challenges for relations with Moscow

On February 6th, Sergey Kopyrkin, the russian ambassador to Armenia, voiced concerns regarding the evolving dynamics between Yerevan and the West. Speaking on Rossiya 24 television, he stated that Armenia’s increasing alignment with Western nations and its expanding diplomatic ties present significant obstacles to the established relations between Moscow and Armenia. Kopyrkin highlighted the European Union’s current stance, characterizing it as “hostile” towards the russian Federation.

He pointed out that the EU is actively encouraging its allies to support this policy, including the imposition of sanctions. This situation, he asserted, inevitably generates new difficulties for the bilateral relations. The ambassador stressed the need for a “reasonable, balanced, and wise approach” from both sides, emphasizing the importance of “strategic foresight.” He acknowledged that these emerging challenges would impact the existing relations between russia and armenia, necessitating a carefully considered, strategic response from all involved parties.

Kopyrkin reiterated the requirement for a unified strategic approach to navigate these complexities and safeguard the future of russian-armenian relations.
