Two Ingush men sentenced to 17 years in prison for brutal murder of Saint Petersburg woman

Two Ingush men have been sentenced to 17 years in prison following a brutal murder in Saint Petersburg. Murat Ganizhev and Abdul-Malik Buzurtanov, both residents of Ingushetia, were found guilty of the aggravated homicide of Elizaveta K., a 25-year-old woman. The crime, which occurred in the summer of 2025 at a flat on Krasnoputilovskaya Street, involved a conspiracy and was characterized by extreme brutality.

Investigations revealed that Elizaveta K., while hosting acquaintances, experienced a psychotic episode induced by substance use. During this episode, she demanded guests leave and then refused to allow them to depart, reacting with hostility to religious practices. The two Ingush men subsequently attacked her with knives, inflicting over 580 stab wounds.

Prosecutors stated the defendants were under the influence of narcotics at the time and utilized three kitchen knives to cause massive blood loss. They fled the scene via a window and drainpipe to evade surveillance. The body was discovered several days later, prompting a police investigation aided by neighborhood security camera installations.

The investigation identified the suspects through CCTV footage and witness accounts. Ganizhev was detained in Ali-Yurt, Ingushetia, while Buzurtanov was apprehended in Sunzha. Ganizhev initially denied guilt, while Buzurtanov admitted partial responsibility.

The court also ordered the defendants to pay over ₽2 million ($24,500) in compensation to Elizaveta’s mother. During the proceedings, Ganizhev submitted a controversial application to participate in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which was rejected. In addition to the 17 years sentenced, a further restriction of liberty was imposed upon completion of their prison terms.

The verdict remains subject to appeal.
