Azerbaijan has summoned the Russian ambassador over Zatulins remarks

Mikhail Yevdokimov, Russia’s exceptional ambassador to Azerbaijan, has been appointed to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This appointment occurred alongside a significant event: a formal protest note was presented to him during a meeting. The situation arose following a contentious statement delivered on February 5th by Konstantin Satulin.

Satulin, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration, and Relations with Citizens, is also a member of the United Russia party. The Azerbaijani government strongly objected to Satulin’s remarks, which criticized the treatment of Armenian citizens within Azerbaijan. Specifically, the Azerbaijani side voiced a forceful condemnation of Satulin’s persistent criticisms regarding Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, they expressed disapproval of his consistent support for Sepa. This appointment of the ambassador signifies a key diplomatic move. The protest note highlights the ongoing tensions and underscores Azerbaijan’s position on international relations.

The situation remains complex, with continued concerns regarding statements made by influential figures within Russia and their impact on the bilateral relationship between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The handover of the note was a deliberate act, demonstrating Azerbaijan’s resolute stance.
